iSkate Food
We have all ‘hit the wall’ during skate sessions and have been unable to continue skating at our peak. This is the body’s way of saying that it does not have the energy to continue skating. Your ability to properly refuel during skate sessions can mean the difference between you sitting down for the last half of the skate session or you shredding for the last half and getting new tricks!
Here are some suggestions when you are packing a bag full of snacks for a full day of skating or when you have to buy some food from a canteen or restaurant. It’s your decision how well you want to skate.
Good vs. Bad
When you are thirsty…
Good
Water is the best form of rehydration. If you are looking for a drink to temp your taste buds try fruit Juice or a Sports Drink.
Water, Juice, Sports Drink
Bad
Fizzy drinks are high in sugar and will make you feel like you have energy but as soon as your body uses up the sugar. You crash and burn baby!
Sub Heading:
Need a quick Snack…
Good
Choose foods that have nutritional value and are quick and easy to eat. Fresh foods provide you with good energy to help you continue skating at your peak. Try some of the foods below
Fruit and Raw Vegetables, Sushi Rolls, Muesli Bars, Nuts, Cheese and Crackers, Yoghurt
Bad
Foods that are bought from a vending machine are high in sugar and don’t have much nutritional value at all. Like fizzy drinks they give you an energy rush fuelled by sugar. Your body burns sugar fast and when that runs out there is nothing left to keep it going. Avoid the foods below.
Chocolate bars, lollies and Chips
Time for Lunch…
Good
Your body will thank you after a hard skate if you refuel your body with foods that resupply your energy reserves. A good healthy sandwich is the best lunch. Try some of the suggestions below.
Healthy Sandwich or roll, left-over’s from last night’s dinner (pasta, chicken, stir-fry’s…)
Bad
These foods have little to no nutritional value. It’s like eating air! Avoid some of the foods below.
Fast Food, Hot Chips, Bags of Chips.
It is always recommended that you pack a lunch if you are off for a full day of skating. Too often skate parks are not near any shops or the only shops you will find close to the skatepark will not have any of the good foods! Eat well
